An Idea of the Responsibilities of a Library Student Worker

1. Be friendly! Remember that when you are working at the Library, you represent the Library (and Centenary) to people who visit, call, or take the time to notice you. Act accordingly! Be friendly, approachable, and never hesitate to ask when you have questions about anything.

2. Show up on time. If you are ill, or can't make it in, call AND email/text one of the librarians to let them know not sleeping for 27 hours has caught up with you and work is not an option right now.

3. Sign in and out of the Student Workers’ Logbook and write down the hours on your time sheet for the week. Remember to sign and put the right month and year down. You don’t want to go through the hassle of having to have to explain to the business office why you thought it was September 2013

4. Learn the Library of Congress Classification systems for shelving and shelf reading purposes. Don’t worry, you will be taught by a librarian and the more experienced student workers.

5. Know your tasks. Learn the workflow and most important tasks for contributing to your assigned area, whether this is circulation, reference, or technical services. Again, you will be shown how to do anything requiring advanced training before you're turned loose.

6. Other tasks include helping people find books, answering the phone, assisting in the computer lab, figuring out why the printer is acting up again, and monitoring the chat

7. Track your interactions! {https://forms.office.com/r/qaqBWWVCGe}

8. Attend any meetings and know the library policies on the library website. Policies | Centenary College of Louisiana
